Re: National Night Out Against Crime, Tuesday August 4th, 2009
The 26h Annual National Night Out Against Crime is scheduled for Tuesday August 4th, 2009. Across the U.S., and at U.S. military bases around the world, neighbors are organizing to fight crime, drugs and safety hazards around them. The theme of the night will be “Give crime a going-away party!”
Charleston residents have participated in this event for about 23 years with different types of celebrations, and our citizens will again be part of this national crime-prevention and safety-awareness effort. Concerned neighbors will join our police, fire, and ambulance/rescue personnel, along with their City Council members and other city services’ represented. Mostly we’ll have a “block party” atmosphere, where you can meet and speak with your local professionals in Public Safety. There will be visits from City Officials and Emergency Personnel. Featured will be Housing Officers, Bike Patrol, Traffic Officers, Walking Beat Officers, Police Motorcycles, K-9 Officers, Community Services and Humane Officers. We will also have Fire Prevention personnel, Firefighters and EMS personnel, with a range of emergency vehicles and equipment. It will be evident that efforts are being made to inform and organize citizens to prevent crime protect themselves from fires and disasters.
